Border Wars: Everything you need to know

Border Wars, an elite box lacrosse tournament with top-level teams and players from California, Colorado, New York and Ontario, takes place at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) from December 18-19, 2021.

Whether you’re playing in the event or watching from the stands, here’s everything you need to know for Border Wars.

Schedule, scores, standings and stats

Go to TRACAthletics.com/events/border-wars to see participating teams, rosters, stats, schedules and standings. Game results and player stats will be updated during the tournament.

Tournament rules

Border Wars will be officiated using the National Lacrosse League Official Rules, with a few slight modifications. They include:

• Ten seconds to clear half (not eight)
• Plastic goalie sticks only (no wooden sticks)
• Three 15-minute periods, running clock unless the score is within two with under two minutes to play in the final period
• For both round robin and playoff games, if tied game decided in three-player shootout, additional single rounds to determine a winner if still tied after three shooters
• Over and back rule will be enforced

Before entering the TRAC

Please arrive upwards of an hour early for your first game only to ensure you check-in with plenty of time.

Before entering the TRAC, players and patrons will need to scan a QR code and submit a screening checklist. There is a unique QR code for players and non-players (coaches, spectators, etc.).

Each individual entering the TRAC needs to complete the screening checklist (not one for an entire family or group). Parents can submit on their child’s behalf.

Once you have completed and submitted your screening checklist, an email will be sent to you confirming your status. You will need to present this email at the door when entering.

Entering the TRAC

There will be a separate entrance for players and non-players at the front doors.

You will need to present your screening status email, proof of full vaccination, and government issued photo ID.

Once you’ve passed this process, you will be given a wristband to be used throughout the weekend, allowing you to re-enter the facility without having to complete the full check-in process again.

Masks to be worn at all times

Upon entering the facility, masks must be worn at all times indoors. Players are permitted to remove their masks during games. Coaches are asked to keep their masks on during games.

TRAC snack bar

As per the Ontario Further Strengthening Response to Omicron‘s new restrictions that come into effect on Sunday, December 19, 2021, the TRAC snack bar will not be open for the second day of the event.

Game arrival and locker-room assignments

Arrive no earlier than 30 minutes prior to your games (exception made for initial check-in, see Before Entering the TRAC above). Teams will be assigned locker rooms, which will be posted on the monitors outside the entrance of both the blue and red pads. Players will have access to their assigned locker room 15 minutes before their scheduled game. The Toronto Rock locker room and Toronto Rock team office are completely off limits.

Attendance during other teams’ games

In order to adhere to the recent reduced capacity limits for any sports or entertainment venue as mandated by the province, we ask that once your team has completed their game and players have returned from the locker-room area, you exit the facility as promptly as possible. While we understand many would like to watch competition throughout the weekend, due to this week’s government-mandated requirements, we are unable to allow for extended event viewing. We sincerely apologize.

Safety and sanitization standards

TRAC Athletics staff will be sanitizing locker rooms after every use, as well as sanitizing throughout the facility during the event. We ask that everyone at the facility sanitize regularly.

Border Wars apparel

Border Wars t-shirts and hoodies can be purchased at the Toronto Rock Lacrosse Shop located in the TRAC.
