TRAC Athletics to host hybrid lacrosse event with box, field, and sixes gameplay

TRAC Athletics is proud to announce the launch of the region’s first-ever hybrid lacrosse event, the In-N-Out Challenge, which will be played over the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend (October 9-10, 2021) at the world-class Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) in Oakville, Ontario.

The two-day tournament will require teams to compete in box, field, and World Lacrosse Sixes (Olympic rules) gameplay with competition held both indoors on the TRAC’s two turf pads and outdoors on the facility’s impressive artificial turf field.

The recently announced Rock Stars Elite Lacrosse Program as well as other highly skilled clubs will compete in this unique and challenging event. While clubs will be competing in all three versions of the sport, just a single champion will be crowned at each division through a special point system that will take into account team success in box, field, and sixes.

World Lacrosse recently established the name, brand identity, and first phase of technical resources for World Lacrosse Sixes. See their official announcement here.

“As the newest offering from our international federation, World Lacrosse Sixes is an ideal complement to our existing field and box disciplines,” said World Lacrosse President Sue Redfern in last month’s announcement. “Sixes blends many of the most popular aspects of the field and box games, and introduces new elements that appeal to the next generation of sport participants and fans.”

The In-N-Out Challenge at the TRAC will be one of the first events held in Canada to include sixes gameplay. Divisions will include boys U13, U15, and U17.

“The Rock Stars program will feature some of the most complete lacrosse players in the province,” said TRAC Athletics Director, Rock Stars Coach, Toronto Rock legend, and Canadian box & field gold medalist, Colin Doyle. “Whether it’s at the pee-wee level or the pros, the best lacrosse players in the world play both box and field lacrosse, and soon to be sixes as well.”

Earlier this year, TRAC Athletics announced Border Wars, a box lacrosse tournament pitting the Rock Stars against top ranked US Box Lacrosse Association (USBOXLA) clubs from CaliforniaColorado, and other soon-to-be-announced states. Additional events and tournaments will be officially announced later this spring and summer.

Clubs interested in attending the In-N-Out Challenge can contact Doyle for more information (cdoyle@torontorock.com).
