Team Kri captures 21U Rock Elite League title
In arguably the most talent-rich season to date, Team Kri captured the 2021/22 Rock Elite League 21U title after beating Team Manns 10-7 in an extremely competitive Cup Final at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre on Monday, February 28, 2022.
Team Kri was led by a 4-goal effort from regular season scoring champion, Will MacLeod (Burlington Chiefs/Robert Morris), and a 5-assist outing courtesy of Ty Jesso (Kitchener-Waterloo Lacrosse Club).
Goalies Kaleb Martin (Owen Sound North Stars) & Evan Constantopoulos (Oakville Buzz) had strong showings for Team Kri too, allowing just three & four goals respectively. Both backstops finished in the Top 5 of most major goalie statistics this season.
“As talented as this team is, this victory wasn’t just about skill,” said Head Coach Brad Kri, who’s group sat first in the standings for most of the season. “Over the last month we really amped up our game. You could see the players on the bench really wanted to win and were always supporting their teammates on the floor. Hard work won us the championship!”
Team Manns was led by Will Sheehan’s (Oakville Buzz/Yale) 2 goals and single assist, the dynamic point producer finishing second behind MacLeoad in goals and points during the regular season.
In coming weeks, TRAC Athletics will announce finalists for this year’s 21U REL MVP Award, in addition to confirming additional year-end awards that will be presented to players later this month.
